Arnolds A funeral cortege passing Arnolds department store on Regent Street.  Arnolds new store opened in 1922 (after a fire) and the tram lines in the road were lifted in 1933, so the photograph was taken between those dates.  The men walking beside the cortege are wearing chains of office, so the funeral must have been of someone fairly important. Do you know who this could be?
St Marys, Southtown Road A funeral taking place at St Mary's Church on Southtown Road. The horses have cover on them with the name of a removal firm which operated from Southtown at the time. It wasn't unusual for families with their own means of transport to provide their own horses and/or biers for the funeral.
Yarmouth Rows This photo was taken on the 24th October 1932 from Row 27. The picture shows a time when the coffin would have to be carried from the house to the awaiting hearse and all the neighbours would line the way to show their respects.
Funeral Cortege Funeral Cortege waiting outside St Andrew's Church, Gorleston. Probably taken in the 1950's.
Church Lane Gorleston Funeral cortege travelling up Church Lane, probably from St Andrew's Church in the background to the Gorleston Old Cemetery on the corner of Magdalen Way and Crab Lane. Nowadays, the Sixth Form College is on the right hand side.
Gorleston Office 1950 Our Gorleston office at 43 High Street, probably taken in the 1950's.
Pre 1917 Funeral cortege waiting outside the company's premises at 217 Northgate Street, which we occupied until about 1917. Arthur Jary stands at the head of the cortege.
Horses Northgate Street Horses on Northgate Street - Although the cortege starts outside 217 Northgate Street, the company has actually moved a few doors down to 214 Northgate Street. This picture is take just before World War 2 as Budderies stables are cleary visable (with the motor car outside). Additional horses were hired from Budderies, which was unfortunately bombed during World War 2.
Horses on Hall Quay Horses on Hall Quay - Taken in 1931, this funeral procession was for Arthur's daughter in law, Alice, who died of TB in 1931 aged just 31 years old. Alice was married to Arthur’s son Lenny, who took over the running of the firm on his father's retirement.
Motorhearse

Motorhearse - Taken not much longer after the previous picture, (as the tramlines are still in the road and were not removed until 1933) this photo shows Arthur Jary looking over what must have been one of his earliest fleet of motor vehicles.
